Day 150: a watermelon

30.05.14: well, never thought I'd still be here after 150 days??!?!?

This one is SO dedicated to the watermelon carrier!! Not only is she carrying my "watermelon" but she still supports me and encourages me (even if my late nights really annoy her...) Thank you!

My cousin started something on day 100 (and I will probably ask again at 200, but) I'd love to hear which are your favorite top three (or five if you want) sketches?

     Have a great weekend.

Day 149: a bandage

29.05.14: ...yeah, sorry,... Some times the Jon and Gus inspiration hits, the humor don't always make sense, but it is funny in my head.... I'll settle for a smile and a sympathetic shake of your head.

Day 147: confetti

27.05.14: okey, this one is not so impressive... By itself... Then again confetti by itself is not that impressive. Put it in context and it is a whole other ball game!!

Had to give the Boss center stage one more time as her time as the single monarch of our family is coming to an end shortly... Not sure how that is gonna go. Anyway, when that time comes, at least you'll know why when I start missing days.

     Hope you like this full-pager!

Day 146: an electric guitar

26.05.14: I kinda hope this is a prediction for the future 'cause I am planning on living off the success of my daughter and the way she is singing and dancing along to any and all songs she like, this could be it!! She'll just have to take some electric guitar lessons soon...

Now, let's see who is not too embarrassed to name the "artist" and/or movie, she is paying tribute to...

Day 145: a haircut

25.05.14: I once stated that the object of this project was to attempt to tell a story with every sketch. I may yet again have overcomplicated that objective... Naaaaaah, I'd never do a thing like that...

One panel from a Jon Pay story that could go SOOOO many ways. I hope you like it.

Day 144: a ball of yarn

24.05.14: this is the result of deciding to watch Man of Steele at 23:00 instead of drawing. Still, ain't he cute?!?

Saturday, May 24, 2014

Day 143: a fairy

23.05.14: one fairy just wasn't enough, so Tinker Bell, Zarina the Pirate Fairy and The Princess Pirate Fairy & her sidekick!

     Have a great weekend!

Day 142: a bulldog

22.05.14: they do say dogs look like their owners... Or the other way around... Not my best... Sorry...

Day 141: a quarter

21.06.14: just realized his nose is too small, but this is Ray Fechs (from day 128) working on the coin to be used to create the mold dropped in day 74... I wonder just how many stories and/or characters I'll have come up with by the end of these 642 days...

Day 140: a candelabra

20.05.14: I know, I know... Too much. What you expect? This one is done with apology to Doc Monster and the late, great Freddy Gonzalez. Maybe I will need the good doctors help to explain this drawing...

Day 139: a music box

19.05.14: a little too ambitious and a tired brain, not a good combination. All things considered it would have a good one to miss...oh, well...

Day 138: a Tyrannosaurus Rex

18.05.14: keep ripping myself off. This is the return of the character not introduced on day 88, but in a three-page story done at the Kubert school back in 1995?!?! (In the story the Tyrannosaurs Rex ate the aging adventurer...) Both are at least drawn better today... Thank the makers...

Day 137: a time machine

17.05.14: okey, I have a confession, I just hope it's not to much of a shock but here goes: I am a bit of a geek!! No, really, it true. I know you don't believe me, but I am!! That being said, this I my first Tardis and also my first Doctor. I apologize to all Tennant fans. Never claimed to be a caricature-artist.

Til alle nordmenn: gratulere med dagen og hurra for 17 mai!!

Day 136: a scallion pancake

16.05.14: Charlie attempting humour... And when it comes to Jon and (even more so) Gus, I claim insanity!! And it was the first idea I had...

(All characters trademark and copyright C. A. Aabø 2014)

Day 135: a dirty rag

15.05.13: the fact that after his fall from grace "ace journalist" Jack Blayne (who appears in both Bullets, Babes & By-Lines and Prizefighters & Knickerbockers)  begged to work for the Cobb City Briefs (being sold here by Tommy "the Kid" Bambino also from P&K), is not important. The fact that scandalous, tabloid, newspapers are often referred as dirty rage is important!!

Day 134: a necklace

14.05.14: not my most creative or interesting, but what we have here is El Billy Tremendo, the current heavyweight champion in Cobb City, showing off his lucky necklace/medallion. (When I finish JP: Prizefighters & Knickerbockers you'll know who I'm talking about...)

     Halfway through the week!!

Day 133: shelves

13.05.14: I can already hear my wife telling me off for complicating something as simple as shelves

This is not my original idea. I came across a actual, similar design on the net and fell I love with it. I modified it to fit the page and how I wanted it to look. And before someone else points it out, the run-down philosopher was more or less an afterthought... But you look at this sketch and you know there's at one story in there somewhere!!

Monday, May 12, 2014

Day 132: a kebab

12.05.14: well... Sort of...

My wife gave me the idea and who am I to pass up genius!!

Sunday, May 11, 2014

Day 131: a flamingo

11.05.14: one of the funniest things from Disney and one of the first (and only) things I think of when you mention flamingos so I went with it. I know it's off model and I should have centered it better (so I could have fit the whole head...) but I am really happy with the result and enjoyed drawing it. Heck, I may even have learned a thing or two...

Back to work tomorrow. Have a great week, everyone.

Day 130: A typewriter

10.05.14: yes, I went for W. A. Burt's 1829 Typographer (and those in the know will notice I accidentally left out the XII...) as apose to an 1929 Underwood typewriter because if I went with the Underwood I would not have been able to stop myself drawing every single key!?!?! Instead I have doctor professor von Fricken-Flicken-Blicken auf Brickenstein geek out!!

Day 129: a vending machine

09.05.14: they did things the cool way in the 1930s, I mean wow just HOW cool is that vending machine?!??!!??

Day 128: a bunch of grapes

08.05.14: and we have the return of Ray Fechs from day 74. I know, I know, how can you tell? Believe me, it's the same guy!! Without looking at day 74, can you guess his nickname? (No, Doc, it is not Wolverine!!)

Day 127: a pocket

07.05.14: and once you've picked which pocket, you pick said pocket...

(PS. Name that musical!)

Day 126: mittens

06.05.14: as always Gus just telling it like it is, and at the same time putting cool back into winter wear!!

(All characters copyright and trademark C. A. Aabø 2014)

Monday, May 5, 2014

Day 125: a corn dog with mustard

05.05.14: I am sure I will have a lot of angry New Jersians yelling at me for associating the official, national food of the boardwalk with baseball, but (and I am sure I could come up with some really colorful bs that would convince everyone that the corn dog actually originated at baseball games and that it the original US patent originally files in 1927, granted in 1929, described it as a Combined Dipping, Cooking, and Article Holding Apparatus (wiki.P.... At least the name bit) but nobody would believe me and) I am too tired. Ladies and gentlemen; start your yelling!! Good night!

Day 124: a library card

04.05.14: unlike day 123 this is a true story from real life!! When she is at the library the boss goes up to the counter by herself, presents her library car (which she believes to be a credit card...) smiles like butter would not melt in her mouth and checks her books out by herself...

Saturday, May 3, 2014

Day 123: a cassette tape

03.05.14: luckily this is not taken from real life...yet... And for those of you who don't know what the boss is holding, go ask your parents (and I don't like you!!)

Hope you all are having a good weekend!

Friday, May 2, 2014

Day 122: a bicycle

02.05.14: this is the first request I have done, but when the request comes from a 8 month pregnant woman, it is a good idea to do your best to meet said request. The fact that it was a great idea is besides the point.

As for the pink speed demon... Luckily we are not quite there yet which is a good thing, cause I am nowhere near ready for that drama. And of course she has picked the most expansive, least practical bike out there. And the tassels (an afterthought here)is a required must. As is the baby seat for Unga, even if she has already explained that Unga is scared to go in it... Got to love her!!!

And just in time for the weekend I also present another double-page spread.... Some of these just become bizarre when seen side by side. What do you think?

Hey, pregnant-one, thanks for the great idea!!

Day 121: a digital watch

01.05.14: when it comes to these technologically challenged themes, I have to bring in doctor professor von Fricken-Flicken-Blicken auf Brickenstein. He is the only one who can understand these. Now, granted I may have stretched the definition of digital watch a bit far, but to make up for it, i did put in three of them...

Hope May ends up being a good month for you all. In this house, we are getting close to the final approach of the arrival of the new boss. Just over a month to go, so the clock is ticking! Exciting times ahead!
