Day 484: a skeleton

29.04.15: this is a drawing I've been wanting to draw since I was lucky enough to get a Jon Pay pin-up from the amazingly talented and fellow ex-QB allumni Tom Mandrake. Tom a master of all things horror gave me the piece below which features zombie or walking skeletons or something to either effect. In my head, today's sketch was the next panel showing Gus dressed up for Halloween. So thank you, Tom. Glad I finally get to show off your pinup.

Day 482: a scream

27.04.15: oh no, there is never drama like this in our house...we've learned our lesson... The always have emergency chocolate buttons...

Day 481: a whisper

26.04.15: this REALLY should have been posted on time (preferable early) to actually be on the correct day. Message is very simple: happy birthday, mom!! I hope you had the fantastic day (weekend more like..) that you deserve and just know, you deserve so much more!!!

Day 480: a huge gold frame

25.04.15: #barum-bum#

I am really starting to enjoy drawin Pat "the Plunger" Markson and who's to say that the job on Rain Street was the first time he and Magpie worked together. ?!?

Day 479: leisure wear

24.04.15: I may have misread leisure wear as sloppy cloths. Then again everybody deserves a Friday night...

Day 478: a bus stop

23.04.15: when worlds collide at the bus stop.

Day 477: a cowbell

22.04.15: I have no excuse for this one. I actually don't even like Clarabelle as a character (for Clarabelle fans, I have nothing against her but I am not one of you...) but for some reason she was the only thing that popped up in my head when I read cowbell... Another classic cartoon character tribute.

Day 476: nails

21.04.15: self explanatory I would hope and both kind of nails are in there.

Day 475: an archict

20.04.15: no pressure on Junior... But we had to continue with the architectural theme from yesterday.

Day 474: a church

19.04.15: if you are going to be dragged in to a new religion, you might as well do it in style. The first churches in are called stavkirker and are a amazing sight to behold. Some more national pride.

Day 473: donuts

18.04.15: to any cops and friends/family of cops, I apologize for the cliché.

Both Sergeant Linda O'Meilly and the beat-cop have appeared before, but the story the flatfoot is telling is from Jon Pay: Prizefigthers & Knockerbockers. Thanks to this project and the encouragement  from the CCC, I am hoping to return to this long-forgotten story in the not to distant future.

Day 472: a box car

17.04.15: yeah yeah, I know a box cart is a train cart, but are you gonna tell me this is not a box car too?!? And before you ask, yes, we actually have one of these. My wife created it (without the sidecar for Junior. There is a small basket attached on the back for one of the Boss' stuffed animals) but guess who has to push...

Day 471: a poodle

16.04.15: I never wanted to make every sketch a Cobb City Most Wanted, but even my sister-in-law thought yesterday's sketch should have fallen under that category. And the more I thought about tonight's theme, the more Roland "Poodle" Pudelhund a bankrobber who has a tendency to make a splash with his jobs which he copies from others from the herds of bankrobbers in Cobb City. He has even taken to his nickname so much so that he has started carrying his gun in a leash around his neck...

Day 470: dimples

15.04.15: having never drawn anyone with dimples before, so considering that and the amount of time Junior ended up giving me to do tonight, I tried to draw just the theme.

Day 469: root beer

14.04.15: May need some of my American friends to explain the beauty of the root beer float to everybody else who has no idea what this is all about.

Monday, April 13, 2015

Day 468: a tetherball

13.04.15: any game you can play alone and still have this be the outcome, is okay in my book!!

Day 467: a chessboard

12.04.15: seven days of Cobb City!!! Yay!! Not planned...

This was a running joke I was gonna use in Jon Pay but it never made any sense (which is why it was funny to me, but no one else got it...). I wanted Jon to love chess, just as both (I believe) Sam Spade and Philip Marlowe did, both to not be able to play it. And as it turned out, Jon was also a sore loser... Who knew?!?

Day 466: a swimsuit

11.04.15: I gave you two swimsuits!! And the Cobb City theme continued sixth day in a row (yesterday I didn't realise that day 461 also featured a notorious citizen of this fine city). Tonight's piece features Sergeant Linda O'Meilly of the CCPD and Jon Pay himself.

Every time I draw Linda, it is difficult to hide the influence Janry (of Spirou fame) and more so now Bruno Gazzotti (artist of the amazing books Soda and Seuls(/Alone)). Especially Linda looks like a direct rip-off... I have no comments to add to that statement...

Day 465: freckles

10.04.15: did not mean for this to be a full Cobb City page but Tommy "the Kid" Bambino and freckled grin, the last piece of the puzzle fell in place.

     Here is the full page

Day 464: mismatched earrings

09.04.15: my campaign and rehearsal for going to Rain Street continues. I drew the Plunger yesterday, today it was Magpie the mysterious jewelery thief who appeared when the theme was presented. And yes, the throwing knife earring is some sort of a clue to her actions. Her mismatched butterfly earring in the other ear means nothing... Now wouldn't you want to know what she is after in a rare bookstore?!? Just saying... But maybe I have given you too many pieces to the puzzle...

Day 463: a burlap sack

08.04.15: I'm not sure why, but I do enjoy drawing Pat " The Plunger" Markson, even if he is always running away. He's like Gus, he is just fun to draw! Plus I am hoping to make his debut in the not to distant future. That's if I survive the current comic book venture I am presently involved in...

Oh, and just for clarity's sake, that is a stolen burlap sack full of money Pat is running away with...

Day 462: a walnut

07.04.15: yep, another of Cobb City's Most wanted and let me tell you, Reggie Juglans is one tough nut to crack....

Day 461: an ashtray

06.04.15: and just to be perfectly clear, there is nothing bad about whiskey!! Of all medication that doesn't work, whiskey tastes the best!

As for Frankie Cunzo, I honestly can not remember if he smokes or not (the Jon Pay stories are set in the 1930s... EVERYBODY smoked in the 1930s!!!) but he's the one I saw in me head when the line came to me... And all you smokers out there, don't believe the propaganda!! You go ahead and enjoy your coffin-nails...eh... I mean cigarettes...

Day 460: a boss

05.04.15: anyone whose been following the blog, knows that there is only Boss in our house... Bossy MacBossyboots... And as you can see, she actually wears the boots...

Day 459: a wooly mammoth

04.04.15: isn't a wooly mammoth just a hairy elephant? And in this day and age, can you really say wooly mammoth with everybody thinking of Manny? I stopped after number one, and still he was the first one I thought of...

Day 458: your pinky finger

03.04.15: like I would know... Yes, it is the cup from day 355 so I hope it isn't poisoned....

Friday, April 3, 2015

Day 457: a labyrinth

02.04.15: I enjoyed this one. Of course, I wanted to decorate each and every wall and corner of the labyrinth. And I have no clue as to who, or what is chasing Jon... Hopefully he can find Gus and get out in one piece...

Day 456: Mount Rushmore

01.04.15: call it being lazy or trying to be clever, but this is what I came up with. Yep, that is suppose Rex Harrison as Mr Doane Robinson. Rex doesn't look like Doane and my Rex does not look like Rex, so that all worked out. Luckily for me, Mr. Gutzon Borglum is too far away to worry about likeness...

Day 455: a centaur

31.03.15: here's a centaur-cowboy, haven't seen too many of those around...
