Day 364: a comet

30.12.14: yes, that is a friendlier version of the Tyrannosaurus Rex from day 138. Both dinosaurs are actually a rip off from a three-page Jon Pay story I did a long time ago. And yes that is a famous movie quote from one of the best movies of all time. And yes, the dinosaurs were killed by a meteor but who's to say a comet didn't hit first...

Day 363: an anteater

29.12.14: now I have a very important question for ya'll. Aardvark the anteater, is he an aardvark or an anteater?!? These are the questions that keep me up at night...

Day 362: a keyboard

28.12.14.: true story. Two years ago I had a few days off from work and as it was a new job my wife and my daughter wanted to see it. Well my daughter was two and a bit at the time and didn't really care about my work but did care that she was out of the house. Brought her to my workstation and my computer which was switched off, not in sleep mode. My daughter jumped up in my chair, started tapping the keyboard and as it didn't wake up, declared nice and loud that my computer was broken... Two and a bit!! True story from real life!!

Day 361: the periodic table

27.12.14: doctor professor von Fricken-Flicken-Blicken auf Brickenstein is just another one of those characters that I plainly enjoy drawing (which is probably why he has been appearing sporadically since day 50). I really hope I get the opportunity to use him in a story sometime. Anyway there are at least two clues as to the fact that the good doctor professor is a man of science. Class? Anyone? Frye? Frye?

Day 360: the Black Forest

26.12.14: this was funny in my head but I  am not a hundred percent happy with how it came out. And all the while while drawing it, all I heard in my head was "we're paint the roses red,we're painting the roses red, we dare not stop, or waste a drop, so let the paint be spread..."

Day 359: a bear family

25.12.14: a year ago today, I received this...book. And so it began...

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!

Thursday, December 25, 2014

Day 358: a palm tree

24.12.13: ...okey... This one may need some explaining. Today is December 24, the day Norwegians celebrate Xmas and as I now live in Ireland I now celebrate the 25. Therefore I wanted today's sketch to have something to do with Xmas, not easy with a theme like palm tree. To me it is not Xmas until I have seen a special Xmas program... We all have one of these. Mine happens to be Snekker Andersen og Julenissen, and it is not Xmas until I hear "no kjæm'n, no kjæm'n Snikker An'ers'n!!". Thus a completely unrelated, snow-covered, star-wearing  palmtree ended up in my favorite Xmas story... Merry Christmas... Or as that's not until tomorrow; GOD JUL, alle sammen!!!

Day 357: a moose

23.12.14: yes, Gus, it is a Norwegian thing!! We actually have these road signs...and now I'm home sick...

Day 356: a map

22.12.14: this joke has been stolen so many times you probably need a map to its origin...

Monday, December 22, 2014

Day 355: a teacup

21.12.13: yep, I was able to turn a simple  drawing of a teacup into a Jon Pay story... Sure, could have somehow linked it to day 79, but I didn't...

Sunday, December 21, 2014

Day 354: a flower

20.12.13: cheesy and corny, I know but at the end of the day, she is my flower...

Friday, December 19, 2014

Day 352: a lumberjack

18.12.14: I don't care what you say- I know and you know, that YOU will be singing it all day long!! And that's ok!!

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Day 351: buttons

17.12.14: the day it rains chocolate buttons, would be a dream come true for the Boss. We are lucky she only likes plain chocolate. I'm a Sneakers man myself. What's your favorite chocolate?

(All characters copyright and ™ C. A. Aabø 2014)

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Day 349: frying pan

15.12.14: these two crazies have  it featured together since day 306 so I figured it be time. The Boss actually has this dress, and this is her and mine favorite quote from the movie. And truth be told, she probably would dress up Junior as Pascal just for affect..:

Day 348: an oasis

14.12.14: making up for yesterday's lack of of anything by going overboard today...

(All characters copyright and ™ C. A. Aabø 2014)

Sunday, December 14, 2014

Day 347: lipstick

13.12.14: no backstory, no jokes or punchlines, no celebrity guest-stars. Just a so-so drawing of a lady putting on lipstick. That's what you get when you wait till two am to do the drawing...

     Can and will do better!!

Saturday, December 13, 2014

Day 346: a parasite

12.12.14: I could have just drawn this book...

Also, instead of "spoon", I should have written "spúnóg". I would have been able to tie it to the legends of Ridire Dáithi de Burca. The reference would still be absurd... And I am not gonna explain. If you get it, you get it. You get it?

Friday, December 12, 2014

Day 345: A dumpster

11.12.14: another attempt of paying homage to the great Jim Henson (other attempts can be seen on day 275, 151 and even day 62... well sort of...). I must admit I had a deprived childhood without Sesame Street but I have still gotten to know some of the characters over time, characters like Oscar the Grouch here. Do you have a favorite Henson character? If so which one and why?

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Day 344: a fainting goat

10.12.14: okey, evidently goats will freeze up, their muscles will freeze up and the will just fall over for a few minutes...and this is completely normal?!? Yeah, I can't come up with anything better...

(Jon Pay copyright and ™ C. A. Aabø 2014)

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

Day 343: a wheel of fortune

09.12.14: those of us who are paying attention knows better than to trust this fortuneteller...

I must admit I like tarot cards. Never had a reading and have never studied them, but I always, always find the designs very interesting!!

Day 342: a turntable

08.12.14: dialog reads

Mr. "Flashy" Eddy Thomas: the tables have turned, mr. Pay!!

Gus MacDugal: does that make this a turntable...?

Jon Pay: you think this is a bright idea, Eddy?

This is another rough one. I hope to get some sleep sometime soon. However to the point at hand. Why is this even remotely funny? Well, again me trying be smarter than I am but there are four points to be made: who the gangster is inspired by (the root of all evil in this piece), the device on the table, Gus' pun and Jon's wise guys comment. Can you get them all?

(All characters copyright and ™ C. A. Aabø 2014)

Day 341: your least favorite food

07.12.14: the day my daughter was born, my wife was a little jealous when, hooked up to all kinds of equipment in the birthingward waiting for the grand arrival, I was called back to her room as my dinner had been deliveried. Now she knows me very well and she felt more than vindicated when I came back to tell her my meal consisted of fish and mushroom-salad. No joke.

Now it is not the combination I don't like. It's the to things separate. So how the universe conspired to ruin my last meal like that, I have no idea. Anyway, there you have it.

If you haven't checked out day 326, please do so. I have updated it with the first inked and colored version of any of these sketches. Please let me know what you think of any and/or all of the sketches.

     Have a great week!

Sunday, December 7, 2014

Day 340: a jug of water

06.12.13: should have had Jon panicking in the background but as I thought of that as I was posting, and as it is 1.20 in the morning due to us setting up the tree, it will have to wait for the George Lucas edition...

And speaking of GL-editions, go check out day 326.  As it was for a friend  of mine who is using it to promote the screening of his movie of the Bantry Blossom, I went back and inked and colored it. Turned out pretty cool. Check it out!!

Saturday, December 6, 2014

Day 339: a beetle

05.12.14: I find this is one of the more violent and sad sketches I've done... Did not expect it to come out that way... Sorry...

Friday, December 5, 2014

Day 338: a directors chair

04.12.14: putting to use one of my all-time favorite and obscure FRIENDS-quote to good use!

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

Day 337: a bowl of pudding

03.12.14: this one is for the Batman fans out there and specifically the Bruce Timm fans (who are not insulted by how off model I am). I really like the idea but the the whole bowl of puddin' just to be a bit much for me.

Anyway, no matter how off model I am, this is how Harley and the Joker should look!!! None off the new 52s malarkey!!!

Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Day 336: prom dress

02.12.14: the reasoning for this was three fold. One; it was inspired by Brad Paisley's song Camouflage, where his dates mother sowed them a matching dress and tux out of camouflage and all you saw were their faces. B) I didn't want to draw a prom dress. And thirdly, I wanted to see if I could pull of this idea. I did alright on day 58 but this was little more challenging. I am happy with the result. What do you think? Anything you would have done differently?

Day 335: dumplings

01.12.13: couldn't think of anyone who would enjoy a Chinese SmörgåsBord than Usagi Yojimbo

Sending nothing but happy thoughts to Sensei and his family!

Monday, December 1, 2014

Day 334: a bookstore

30.11.14: Pat "The Plunger" Marksen's first attempt to steal the original copy of la Journal de Méthodiquement Frèrr Fou for Professor Boekenschroefdraad's antique bookstore but of course he steals the wrong book...ehm... I mean... Okey, so maybe it wasn't only on day 106 I said too much...

Sunday, November 30, 2014

Day 333: a compound fracture

29.11.14: procrastinated with this one as I struggled with what to draw. Everything I came up with was extremely violent (probably didn't help that I procrastinated while watching the Watchmen...) and I kind didn't want to draw that. So this is what I came up with and it gave me an excuse to use Doc Monster again. Always worth it, even when I am rushing it to get some sleep...

Saturday, November 29, 2014

Day 332: a secret door

28.11.14: there is a secret door but my favorite is actually the door handle. I'll have to draw the door open, one day...

Day 331: a sardine tin

27.11.14: this one goes out to anybody and everybody from Stavanger!!!  And many a person has murdered a sardine tin...

If you think know what an "iddis" is, please leave a comment and explain to the rest of rest class!!

To all my American friends and family: happy thanksgiving!!!

Day 330: a scorpion

26.11.13: the tales of Ridrie Dáithi de Burca roll on. Depicted here is the legendary duel a scannán chun féachaint which he fought against an ridre dorcha Cal de Scairp. Till this day it is on clear who was victorious...

One of these years I will be tested nå be awake enough to do justice to finscéal ridire Dáithi de Burca...

Day 329: a snorkel

25.11.14: a slightly different Jon Pay. Hadn't tried to draw this before. Some "perspective issues", but I like it!

Sunday, November 23, 2014

Day 327: a sock monkey

23.11.14: this features my daughters stuffed-animal-blanky, Oonga, who has been with us since she was just a baby. For those who think this is the first time Oonga is in this blog, I suggest you go back and take a second look. I believe she has been in everyone ('cept one, can you find which one?) of the sketches where I have drawn the Boss. And Oonga is very protective of her house and even more so her kid!! So just back off Mr. Sock Monkey!!!

Day 326: an office park

21.11.14: some may say I am cheating on this one, others may say I am ignoring the topic. I say I am being industrious here. A friend of mine asked me for a pinup of his character Bantry Blossom (fully copyrighted and ™'ed so don't even...) whom a movie is being made of. So most of the reference shots I found of Office Parks were areal shot, I figured, why not have her do a fly-by. And those of you paying attention, yes that is Malta Office Park II and anybody who knows anything about the Bantry Blossom knows that she always does her fly-bys over Malta Office Park II (on Malta... Not anywhere near Cork...)!!! EVERYBODY knows THAT!!

(Also, I believe this to be my first superhero-sketch...)

UPDATED!!
06.12.14: As it was for a friend  of mine who is using it to promote the screening of his movie of the Bantry Blossom, I went back and inked and colored it. I thought it turned out pretty cool. What do you think? (First superhero AND first (George Lucas-)special edition... Granted the Office Park, went missing, but what're you gonna do...)

Day 325: chocolate truffle

21.11.14: just one of those ideas that popped in my head and as I could not come up with anything else, so I went with it.

Day 324: a Q-tip

2014.11.20: return of Stan Brocóli... I thought it funny... But I'm tired so I don't count!!

Day 323: cutlery

19.11.14: yeah, kinda didn't have anything here. The sketch kind of worked in some ways better than I had hoped. Still don't know what to do with these goons which is probably why I did not induct them in to the Cobb City Most Wanted but it's most likely where they belong.

Day 321: a crab apple

17.11.14: I agree!!! It could very well be argued that this is more of a Apple Crab than a crab apple, but I am more of a marine-cartoonologist than a marine-biologist... Also, I know a crab apple is a bark-tasting hard apple so creating a new breed of crab was more fun!

A way more interesting fact is that this is in fact the HALF WAY MARK of this project of mine. 321 days of sketches!! Sure some have been late and the quality (or lack there of) has varied quite a bit, but each night for the last 321 nights, the last thing I have done is to post here. I must admit that I am a little proud of this, especially considering I personally thought I would quit after one week. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me and offered up words of support!! Please keep 'em coming and if you have never left me a comment, please do so. I would love to hear what you think!!

See you all for the next half!!

Day 320: an eye patch

16.11.14: I am so happy I found an excuse to use the pirate from day 32 again. I was really happy with him then and I like him now too! What do you think?

Sunday, November 16, 2014

Day 319: a computer

15.11.14: here's one for the true geeks and/or movie lovers!! Who can name the movie?

Saturday, November 15, 2014

Day 318: toast

14.11.14: true story. My little girl, who had featured in these pages since day 22 and many times since, turned FOUR today!! She is spoiled rotten, which is evident from the fact that my wife and I have just spent the last  three and a half hours baking for her party tomorrow (which is why I am posting late), but we wouldn't have her any other way. Best wishes, bossy-boots

Day 317: a butterfly

13.11.14: ...huh...?!?...AGAIN?!?! I already drew a butterfly back on day 211... Well, as I introduced Ridire Dáithí de Burca back then, I guess it would it is okay for me to draw him again. He does after all have a féileacán as part of his cóta Armas.
